D-15 Brakes Resto

IMG_7612.JPG

Getting carried away here: anchor pin, star wheel assembly and emerg brake hardware are all cleaned up and shiny. Question is should I leave bare or paint? Can't tell if they were originally black or not; just looked lightly rusted. Was also thinking of painting the backing plate black. Would this be ok with chassis paint (Eastwood) or would it get too hot by the brakes?

Also, can anyone help with source for the brake shoes (part # or where to get)? What about the springs and the retaining springs and keepers?

Maybe it's overkill, as I'm probably the only one who will ever see this stuff?! But I will need the shoes anyway. Thanks for any help!

Do what you like! Painted drum brake parts are uncommon, though.
These things get really hot. Maybe bbq paint?

Re: D-15 Brakes Resto

My thought was not to paint the parts either. Just want to make sure that would be the most correct look. What about repainting inside of backing plate? Was that painted originally?

Any part # or source on the brake shoes and springs?

Re: D-15 Brakes Resto

be sure to take in to consideration paint flaking or peeling and ending up on wheels or married to your shoe linings.. wheter from heat or from residual brake fluid at wheel cylinders.. might be better off going without paint, but i agree smog_guy, do what you like best... good luck
