6 Speed Special found

I found this 6 Speed Special a half hour's drive from home and have been in contact with the owner and am trying to buy it. The engine is actually still loose!!

Re: 6 Speed Special found

I wonder how long that's been there? Cool!
I don't see wheels, are these wooden spoke?
I finally see rear axle, buried?
I'm totally jealous.
1930ish?

The windshield was still intact when I last looked at it. Yes, it has or had, wood spooked wheels. The 6-speed special was introduced in 1928 and made up until the early 1930s. I am not sure exactly what year this one is.

Re: 6 Speed Special found

You have the best "before" picture ever.
How do you intend to move it?
I usually use a roll-back tow truck, but I see trouble getting on and off the bed without doing damage?
I suspect drums are locked? It's like moving a small house at this point.
Beware the "helper" with the forklift! Those things can really screw up an old truck.
Post more pics if you can.

Re: 6 Speed Special found

I plan on borrowing my brother's skidloader and using it to carefully lift one end at a time out of the dirt, block it up and then using chains hang it from the forks of the skidloader and lift and set it on my trailer.

Re: 6 Speed Special found

For a short time I owned the last version of the Six Speed Special, an early 30s w/ Waukesha? It ran!
It started as a panel truck. The previous owner condensed what was there into a c cab flatbed.
I made it into a vintage tow truck using an old tractor engine hoist from the 30s and Little Giant hand winch.

Nebraskakirk

Looking at the old timber front wheels should make it 1929.

If you plan to lift it with the skidsteer just be careful as the front will be still heavy with the engine in it. Might be able to source a couple of wheels and tyres if interested will need to check that they are still available.

Are the wheels and tires in Australia?

Re: 6 Speed Special found

I looked at the truck again today, with the permission of the owner, and got a few more pictures. The serial number is X13959E, I guess that would make it a 1928 model.
