International truck identification

Hi, A friend who lives in Victoria Australia has this rather heavy Inter truck chassis that has been shortened and made into a trolley which was pulled by means of a drawbar attached to the front axle. Judging by the large size of the rear wheels (34 inch rims) it would have been one of the heavier models. I will ask the owner to measure the chassis rail size and the spring sizes also.
Can any one help in identifying what model it is please? The owner would like to restore it and is looking for an engine and gearbox and so on. Thanks John M

John

Posting pictures can only be done one at a time if you are using the upload attachment tab. If you are using something like photobucket then you need the ing file.

Or email them to me.

Re: International truck identification

Hi Trevor, I am having considerable trouble loading pictures as it seems I had 2 copies of one picture uploaded and then I couldn't delete the duplicate and added to that it seemed that the site was timed out when I was part way through. I don't find the system easy to work with! and would appreciate your assistance thanks.John M

Re: International truck identification

Hi Trevor, I have both pictures up now, hope it works ok. Do you know of any parts for the above mentioned truck, it would be good if we could help get a truck of this age back together again. Thanks John M

Re: International truck identification

These solid rubber tired trucks were made way up into the early 1940s due to their popularity with contractors.
Trying to track down a year is really going to be hard without an frame ID number if that exists.
I personally have never come close to a hard rubber tired model. Have no idea where to find parts.

Re: International truck identification

I looked in Crismon's IH Truck book. Those distinctive 5-spoke front wheels point to either a Model 94 or 103 truck from the mid 1920s. The pictures in the book show both the Model 94 and 103 with 5 and 6-spoke front wheels, but it does say both of the models were quite similar, with 103 having an optional longer wheelbase (185 inches), and 14 inch solid rear tires on 40 inch rims. The Models 94 & 103 were introduced in 1924 and were produced until 1926.

Numbers produced:

1924
95 Model 94s and 448 Model 103s

1925
379 Model 94s and 285 Model 103s.

1926
no numbers listed

The engine used was IHs own 4.25x5, 284 cubic inch, 4-cylinder engine. Same engine as was used in the McCormick Deering 10-20 tractor.

Re: International truck identification

I took a peak at Crismon and found that the hard rubber tire models were made well into the 1930s, however in increasingly small amounts.
Gotta have some frame numbers.

Re: International truck identification

I spoke to the owner tonight and he will check for the truck chassis size and the model and serial numbers. I understand they should be found stamped into the chassis just to the rear of the left front spring hanger, is that where you will find them? Some one once thought that they were also stamped on the top surface of the rear axle support beam can anyone confirm this please? The tyres do seem in quite good condition and therefore of significant value. Thanks John M
