How to set a steel tire

A lot of talk between several of us has been on how a wooden wheel is properly repaired. The steel rim is shrunk on after the wooden wheel is built. But just how big of a steel rim should be used? I found an answer but it is not a magic formula but rather a blacksmiths rule of thumb.
Proper draw on a strait tight wheel should be 1/2" possibly 5/8". Further if the wheel is poor or dished do not give it over 1/4" draw. Check out this article. JMM

Mike

Great read I still think it is a art form to be able to fix the old wheels and don't think to many of us could tackle it at home. I have watched a few you tube videos and need lots of hands.
