36 C1

hello, so today I picked up a 36 C1 125"wb from the original family. great grandpa bought it new, then to grandpa, then to dad, then to son. now talking with dad today, he parked it in 1962 when he bought a new f100 and it still ran. son never drove it as he was a few years to be born. it's been sitting at the uncles for years. dad was telling me the original engine was done years ago, so he put a "truck" engine in it. the engine is stamped HD3. what is that? here are some pictures.

it's got metal doors, but there was wood in the cab. it has "juice" brakes.

where can I find a list of serial numbers for years?

does anyone have an extra left front headlight I could purchase? I don't know if they are side specific.

The HD engine would have been original to this truck I believe. They are the original Willey's engine that IH later turned into the Green Diamond GRD 214 and GRD 233. I beleive the HD's were a 213 (C1 would have had the 213) and 232.

Willies designed it, but that engine was made by IHC. Look on the side of the block and you will see the "International" and three diamonds cast into the block.
IHC was looking for an engine to put in small trucks, and the flathead fit the bill.
All IHC engines designed and built in house were OHV and used timing gears not chains. IHC used vendor engines in the early years for SSS and for some of the large trucks (Hall Scott and Conti) but starting in the early thirties the had their own for most of the truck line, except the biggest and the smallest.

In most IHC engines, the engine number starts with the series, (HD) followed by the displacement, followed by the serial number.

so I guess I don't understand mine in the picture above HD3- 39555. it looks like a metal plate has been welded to the block. I guess I'm just curious what I have. the oldest truck I have had so far is 1950. so if it's like BD240xxx, that would make mine 339 cuin? maybe it's remanufactured because the number plate is welded on???

It is not a BD240. The 240 engine is a valve in head and not a flathead. The 220/240/264 are all.the same family.

I know it's not a BD240, reread my post. I'm trying to understand the HD numbering and what what size engine I have in the C1 I just acquired.
