Anyone know what this bracket was for?

Re: 1928 SSS mystery bracket

My guess would be to hold an oil can? I had a 29 Essex that had one. I have a 29 SSS myself and it does not have one. Is it pretty sturdy?

I thought oil can too. But then I was thinking that there is just not a lot of things that would require an onboard oil can? Most everything has a grease fitting.

Prior to grease / zerk type fittings there were reservoir type fittings / using felt wicking
with brass bushed sleeves, some were two part, way back leather and wood was used in place of brass
still in use today in some hoppers and conveyors- anyway.

other uses:

- Distributor - felt on rotor - and shaft lube point
-Cab doors & latches
-Muffler bearings
-Occasional squirt for squeaks hear & their :m03104:

If I only could find an original IH oil can that would be so cool..

I doubt the IHC made oil cans. Buy something that fits, put an IH label on the can. I do not think the bracket and can should be there as an OEM part.
