Re: 1926 International S-26

I was reading up on generators, seems they don't really charge the battery when the engine is idling like an alternator. I have lots of homework to better understand the old technology used on this truck.

Re: 1926 International S-26

I found this link that has a 6v alternator develop to replace the generator. It will produce energy to charge the battery when idling. http://www.fifthaveinternetgarage.com/parts/index.html

Has anyone tried this system yet?

6-volt Alternators

Standard 6-volt alternator. Output is 60 amps, 7.5 volts and features a solid state internal regulator. A “DA” plug is also included.
Part #89502S-
$210.00 each

Great to hear you have got the truck home now.
Do you have a link for the gas tank or was it just a one off ?.
If you generator is working fine and charging I wouldn't be to concerned about changing it as these old trucks don't have much that needs power at idle, one thing to make sure with the 6 volt system is to have good earths just make sure they are all clean and cables are in good condition.

I sent an email to the supplier to see if he has another gas cap, I will let you know once I get a reply.
I can add the 6v alternator above the generator without altering the vehicle, but you don’t think it’s necessary?

The supplier says he has some at another location, he asked to give him 24 hours to call and confirm.

Re: 1926 International S-26

Hi Trevor, I’m still waiting for a reply on the Gas Cap. Seem to be a stocking issue at their other location.

I just bought another International Harvester truck, this one’s a 1925 S-24. My research states that the 1925 Internationals were SL models, the S-24 and S-26 were made from 1926 on, but the plate shows it’s an S-24. Is this common for the year, or could the plate be from another truck? My number on the 1926 is CS6796130 and the number on the 1925 is CS41074130.

Re: 1926 International S-26

brighad,
Congratulations on the new/old truck! It looks fairly solid, in better shape than many. I would question whether it is a good idea to run the ignition primary wires through the tube with the spark plug wires.
