Re: Leather roof covering

Cost more, but it looks wonderful and it would lake a lot more abuse. I was quoted around $800.00 to a $1000.00 Canadian to do the roof and seats with real leather, that would be seamed to fit the entire roof. The leather is around 1/4" plus in thickness, and the seamstress will research to find the kind of folds that were used in that era so it looks authentic.

I'm leaning towards the leather with a lacquer finish. I cant see that there is enough savings to go with the other product on the roof.

Re: Leather roof covering

Just to see what happens, I placed an up-side-down glass of soapy water onto a piece of the oil treated leather and left it for 48 plus hours. The leather was unaffected by this silly test.
I like leather because of the wonderful new-car aroma it gives off.
If you use the leather I we ended up with, for the upper bulkhead panel in the trunk, be prepared to use some method of attaching the leather other than glue.

I'm not following you when you say ( "If you use the leather I we ended up with, for the upper bulkhead panel in the trunk, be prepared to use some method of attaching the leather other than glue").

Are you talking about the roof covering or the rear of the seat?

This. It separates the trunk (boot) from the passenger area. The lower area is wool carpet

Re: Leather roof covering

I believe, if you refer to Nikki's "others" build, he is referring to the type of leather he ended up with.

Re: Leather roof covering

Ok, My truck doesn't have those issues, the leather can be fastened all around the perimeter of the roof and seat.

Okay Professor, we got that sorted out for you.
On the off-chance that you have not chosen an upholstery shop, check out this one. I've had the best service from them.
