Re: 26 IH Bed design

Looks like the majority likes the first box with fenders, Makes me happy, I really like the design and I think it will look better as the final product.

Re: 26 IH Bed design

Well I have made a mock-up of the box with the brackets from a 1926 Chevy pickup. I banged out the fenders, the Running boards and the splash guards from 16 gauge steel.

I'm going to extend the running boards and the splash guard to look like this truck.

Re: 26 IH Bed design

I made the dimples in the running board extensions to match the existing units. My arms are ready to fall off.

So far its cost me $60 worth of steel (a 4' x 8' piece) to make the two fenders, the aprons/splash guards and the running boards, and still have a piece left over.

Great work! Yes keep the photos coming! It's always interesting to see how people solve these types of problems. Smart, very smart, making a mock-up!

This reminds me of the old, tired and worn-out joke that asks, "How do you sell a chicken to a nearly deaf guy?" "DO YOU WANT TO BUY A CHICKEN?"

Re: 26 IH Bed design

Well, I stripped the bed off the truck and machined some white oak for the new box. The frame is in maculate shape, no rust.

I placed the fender and skirt to see what it will look like, I think she will look so sweet when she's done.
