Re: Need D2 info, please help!

Thanks for the link to captainbob's build Dean, and Bedrock and George for the rim size! I do not know the track width of the D2 yet, I have ordered a parts and instruction book but I have not received it. Anybody out there know the track width of the D2 offhand?

According to this source, an S10 2wd has a front track width of 54.8" and a rear track width of 54.6".

http://www.new-cars.com/2002/chevrolet/ ... suspension

Four wheel drive track width is a little wider. S10 wheelbases are 108.3", 117.9" and 122.9".

According to this site,

http://www.edmunds.com/dodge/dakota/200 ... =100002897

An '02 2wd Dakota has a front track width of 60.9" and a rear track width of 61.9". Wheelbases are 111.9" and 131.1".

Early Dakotas with the regular cab long bed option had a 123.9" wheelbase.

Hope this helps,

Re: Need D2 info, please help!

Great info fellas, thanks!!!

Just to be clear...is the "tread width" as noted in the specs above the same measurement as the "track width" (centerline of wheel)? Or did they measure to the outside of the rubber way back when? Just want to be sure it's the same thing. Looks like I have a few possible options for a donor frame. I'm going to PM captainbob with a couple questions on the Dakota.

Jim,
Tread width and track width should be the same thing, center of tire to center of tire. I think the Dakota frame is a better fit for trucks newer than yours, but the D is between the width of the S10 and the Dodge. What is the D's wheelbase? That may help you make up your mind.

Re: Need D2 info, please help!

Dean,

Looks like the D2 short WB is 113 according to the Wisconsin link above. So the 2WD Dodge at 111.9 would be pretty close! Do you think the extra 2-3" of track width would give me any problems in the fender wells? Not planning on dropping suspension and going with stock rims and tires, or maybe just a little wider for better ride. Vintiques only has one 16" repro artillery style wheel, but they have a bunch of 15" wheels.

Anyone had to replace the original rims on your D2 folks? What did you go with?

Re: Need D2 info, please help!

Jim,
I don't think 2-3" would cause you a problem as long as you don't go overboard on tire width. Some time spent with a tape measure would tell you with more certainty. By the way, '87-'90 Dakota 2wds had 5 x 4 1/2" wheel bolt pattern. Lots of wheel choices in that size.
