Re: International truck identification

John

I am still looking thru some paperwork trying to get you some sizes to compare, stamped number can be found as you said front L/H side and also on the axle tube.

Can you please take a picture showing the Diff centre and drive.

Re: International truck identification

John the reason for asking about the diff is from the pictures it does not look like it has the normal solid support axle with the diff bolted to the front and then the 2 drive shafts that drive the wheels on a ring gear inside each wheel.

With the chassis having the 40 x 14 rear tyres and front spring hangers as part of the front cross member I was leaning more towards the 103 but as I said the diff might rule this out.

Sent you the spec sheets you will notice you are missing the auxiliary rear springs.

Re: International truck identification

Hi Trevor, The chassis had been shortened and the rear axle moved forward and rebolted into the new position leaving off the helper springs. I will post some more pictures but unfortunately the chassis is in Victoria and I am in S Australia. It seems from the information you posted, that a spare model 43 engine we have is smaller than the one fitted to this model truck. I wonder if anyone has an engine and gearbox for sale that would fit this truck. Thanks for you help, Regards John M

Re: International truck identification

Crismon says in his book that the Model 94 used 40x12 rear wheels and the Model 103 used 40x14.

Would this motor that is posted on E-bay work? Mike Miller posted it in Diamonds: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Interna ... 0951083947

Re: International truck identification

I saw that and wondered, too.
I just don't know enough about these trucks, never seen one in person.

Re: International truck identification

From studying the photos of the rear axle, I do not believe it is the forged rear axle with live axles supplying power to a ringgear inside the rear wheels. That eliminates the models 94 and 103. I think it looks to be a model 74 or 74HS. It would have a double reduction inside the differential. Should have a 7" axle flange with 8 bolts at the hub. (full floating rear axle) There was a model 74C which was chain drive so not it. That brings up the question of which one 74 or 74HS, the 74 had a 283 cid IH overhead valve engine (eliminates the flathead I had posted on a different thread) or a Hall Scott overhead cam engine. Production numbers seem to be from 1927 to 1934. I didn't finish research as eyes are going buggy. What do you think? JMM

Also the 103 was replaced by the 104 but I see no production numbers for the 104 only a 104C which would have been chain reduction drive, thus eliminating the larger truck.

Re: International truck identification

Would the Hall-Scott models ID begin with "HS"?
Would "HS" be stamped on the frame in that case?

Re: International truck identification

Mike, it looks to me like there are 2 holes through the sides of the differential case for the live axles.

Mike

Your eyes must have been sore. LOL

Looking at the picture you can see the brake arms across the front and then back about 2" on both the diff centre housing and the backing plate you can see the holes for the drive axles. So I think that it is a Model 103.

smog-guy
None of the frames are stamped with the engine manufacturers name as a prefix. (EDIT 07/31/2013) Ooops I owe an apology all frames with the Hall and Scott engines will have HS stamped on them.

Nebraska kirk you don't need glasses yet.
