Differential Gasket

Does anyone have a source for a differential cover gasket for a D-2? I tried Olson's Gaskets, but they don't have one. I can pattern one and send it to them to make one, but a ready source would be great.

Thanks,

John

Re: Differential Gasket

A slightly greasy/ dirty pattern (part), a tiny ball pein hammer and an appropriate piece of gasket is all you need. The dirty grease transfers the pattern easily.
Cut it out with scissors or a knife.
A hole punch finishes it.
This really is a cinch.

Re: Differential Gasket

When punching holes, I find a ball bearing, 1/4 to 1/3rd bigger than the hole in question does the trick. This is if the cover or piece has good sharp edges to the bolt holes. Lay the gasket over the item, place the ball bearing over the hole and strike with a hammer.
I assume the need for the gasket is for period look. Today no heavy diff Mfg even sells or lists a part number for a cover gasket on heavy diffs. The only list RTV
I have been able to get gaskets for more common lighter diffs, but anything bigger is always RTV.

Re: Differential Gasket

It's time I get a decent hole punch kit - I'll likely be making several gaskets for the old D-2 :-)

Re: Differential Gasket

BTW the reason I pursue premade gaskets whenever possible is because I have a tremor (that already makes working on the truck difficult)... Anything I cut with a scissors looks like a two year old did it, and poorly at that ;-) But I guess nobody will be seeing it but me... :-)

Re: Differential Gasket

If someone can make a "copy" or imprint or something like that, I believe you stated that Olsen's would make them if they had a pattern. just a thought.

Re: Differential Gasket

I avoid using a gasket on the differential cover. My first choice is RTV. The company I worked for has 1500 vehicles and we used RTV, only. Our
local IWE Rear Ends Only recommends RTV.
What was the other question?
I would rather have tools I do not need than to need tools I do not have
