Wheel Bearings?

I can not find front original bearings for my 33 ton and a half. I can find the same ID and close OD. So the question is to turn the hub to the size of the new bearing or turn the bearing cup down to the hub size. The new bearing I found is .15 larger than my hub? Just looking for opinions or what someone else might have done. Or if any one knows were to find bearings. 20646d and 20659d cup-20660d cone

Re: Wheel Bearings?

Check with Motion Industries, give them the part number on the old bearings and they can get new ones for you.

20646d crosses to Timken #2620
20659d crosses to Timken #414
20660d crosses to Timken #23256

Only as a very last resort would I have the hub machined for a larger OD bearing race to fit, don't even think about turning down the OD of the bearing race, they are hardened and precision ground steel.

Re: Wheel Bearings?

Thanks for the cross. And the info. only problem is the specs on the crosses don't match mine. the only one that comes close is the 2620. I have access to a lathe grinder to cut the .075 off that I need to make it fit. I know that is not the way it should be done but I do have that option.

Re: Wheel Bearings?

Call Motion Industries then and give them the bearing numbers and ID and ODs and if they can't come up with a match then you will probably have to modify the race or the hub.

Re: Wheel Bearings?

I presume you have new cups (races)? Do they happen to be marked "China"? Not long ago somebody had brand new parts stamped that way and they didn't fit,he bought U.S. made and bazinga! they fit perfectly.
All the pn's above are cups, why just three? Where did the numbers come from, off the part or a book?
With the right catalog races can be found using the cone pn's.

Re: Wheel Bearings?

I took the numbers off my original bearings. I have dimensions on the cups and cones. Outer bearing ( I.D. 1.00in O.D. 2.48in ) Inner bearing ( I.D. 1.625in O.D. 3.48in ) I can find the matching I.D. with O.D 2.50 and 3.50 easy. I tried the part numbers out of my book and can find a couple parts on good old Ehay. All made in china and not in a set cup on one, cone on the other. I tried motion ind. and they came up with the same I found.

You might also check Kaman Bearing, this one might be close to you. I have found that between the two, Motion and Kaman, I can generally find what I need in bearings. My experiences only.

Re: Wheel Bearings?

Thanks I will check them out this week. I called FAG bearings in Joplin Mo and they can do the same thing I was going to do, and custom fit a race. But they don't have the exact size and my wallet didn't like them. Thanks for the help.
