213 engine question

I have a 213 engine and there is some kind of sensor in the very middle of the head...what is it? I think it could be a heater? It goes down in the block about 6" and could tell there was a wire attached at some point. How about a replacement part for it or could I do without it all together?

It is probably a block heater and can be replaced with a head bolt.
