Standard A-3 was 136" wheelbase. The AL-3 was 164" so I would say the L was to designate the long wheel base.

Both truck came standard with Lycoming engines the A-3 (SAH) the AL-3 (SLH).

The machine production list also shows a ALF-3 fitted with a CTH Lycoming

Re: 1930 truck

I took a quick look at Crismon. He doesn't seem to say what the L was for. However, the AL-3 and ALF came out after the A-3. Perhaps " light" " later" ?
Crismon implies that several wheelbases were available for the AL and ALF.
So, good question....

Re: 1930 truck

well, it would seem obvious the L would stand for a lucky guy that owns one.
