The problem I see with this is that the "vin" or Chassis number would(should) also be on the frame of the vehicle.

Possession of what I think you may have described could get a person arrested here.

What is being said, is.... Check your laws. Yes, we realize that it has probably been done before. If you build a custom frame, and you stamp a number on it, at least in my state, the Inspector will still issue a State ID number(vin) that must be affixed to the frame and vehicle and that is what your vehicle is titled under. Again, Check your laws. You are welcome to try to sell what you have here, no problem.

quick fix for all this concern is you sell this as a "historic document" Hemmings is full of "historic documents" but no titles for sale,

I allegedly just helped a guy with a historic document and collectible I.D. plate for his project, his state doesn't inspect the frame for #,

if a state did inspect frame, it could also be suggested that the old frame broke so the body with papers was put on a good junkyard frame,

depends on each states DMV I suppose, WA. state has no inspection requirements anymore other than weight,

if historic document has scale weight on it like a WA. does,,,,good to go.

here were I live they don't do any thing so it don't matter but it was a pain to get a title for something but you could you had to have a bill of sale and 4 pic of it then you buy you plates for it they send it to the state then they send you what they think it is worth you buy a bond for one and a half what they say it is worth the title has a bond on it if a guy can prove it was his he can take it from you up to a year time
