Christchurch

I can't believe it happened. My thought go out to the whole country. I thought that kind of horror was limited to the US. I had a high school friend who live there for a few years, she loved it and said the people were so welcoming. What a terrible waste of life.

Re: Christchurch

I always thought that NZ pretty much had their act together, I guess no country is immune anymore to the insanity that is taking hold in this world. My heart breaks every time I read a news story like this and these horrific episodes are happening way to often now.

Re: Christchurch

And what does this article have to do with the gunning down by a nut ball of people in their church in another country? Where is the outrage of Christens being murdered? As others occasionally do, here is what I was referring to: https://www1.cbn.com/cbnnews/cwn/2019/m ... ruary-nbsp

The church shooting in Texas, the Las Vegas Casino Music Festival shooting, The gay nightclub shooting in Florida, countless school shootings. All of these make me sick to my stomach. I think there is enough outrage to go around for any of these regardless of race creed or color. There are too many crazy a**holes with access to military grade weapons with high capacity magazines, bump stocks, laser sights, flash suppressors and beyond. Do civilians use these to hunt deer?.....I don't think so.

I live in the country and have a neighbor who has been clinically diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. Some of the weapons he owns are a pair of 9mm pistols with high capacity mags. Some times when the moon is full and he is off his meds he is out in his backyard burning through mag after mag shooting in the air while screaming obscenities at the top of his lungs. Mental health services gets called and they get him back on his medication but no one comes to take his guns away. Should he be allowed to own guns under the second amendment? I own several rifles and shotguns. So yes I'm a gun owner but I support back ground checks and sensible laws regarding certain semi- automatic weapons. NRA be damned it's time to get some realistic gun laws in this country.

If all of a sudden I don't post here for awhile it may be because I'm on vacation. Then again it may be because my fruitcake neighbor has murdered me and my family!

Lloyd, I am heartsick about all the violence, I brought up CC as I was shocked it happened there, not because of the race, religion, sexual preference etc. I thought I made that clear in my 1st post. Anybody who feels the answer is blasting away at another living creature is sub-human in my book.
Before that mass shooting in Sweden, the US stood pretty much alone in the mass shootings. Suicide bombings take place around the world and are just as bad.
The White supremacy movement has many of the same hallmarks of the many religious extremist movements regardless of faith. They all subscribe that is ok to kill if you don't agree with their thinking.
My friend moved there after the earthquakes to help with the rebuilding of the city. She remarked on how welcoming the whole nation was.

Re: Christchurch

Life south of our common border is so far removed from what we live in Vancouver, BC. The city of Vancouver, BC, Police were sadly announcing that they had their third murder and "here we are two and a half months into 2019."
New Zealand is still a safe country and I would go there for a visit in a minute. Bad stuff can happen, anywhere. Even the best of intentions for law and can be violated by a rogue citizen. These persons do not represent the majority. The Prime Minister of NZ is a person of peace. She will make the important changes needed to keep civility.
It was a sad situation, for me, when my wife used to book her American business trips through her favorite travel agency. They would give her an unofficial USA travel caution/warning. New Zealand does not have a travel warning.
I am our first generation born in Canada. My grandparents traveled to Canada from Nebraska and Missouri. They entered the USA through Ellis Island. Their names are on the register. I feel a distant connection. The statistics show that something important has been lost.
Our Prime Minister is a man of peace and equality. He is not a racist and he respects women. Our elected leaders represent the country. What ever our leaders say or act out sends a strong message to those looking from the outside world.

Re: Christchurch

CB, I got what you where stating in your post, I was responding to something else. I did add the post of the Christians that I was talking about. It is a very sad thing that folks of ANY group think that they can kill people because they do not agree.
Binder Mike, I agree that your neighbor is quite possibly the very person who should have his guns removed. But to infringe on others rights because of him, I disagree with.
And with this, I am out of this conversation. We will have to agree to disagree on some things. Still count you all as friends, and want to keep it that way.
