Function of the capacitor (condenser)

The original video is about building an induction heater, and he does the coil demonstration at about the 8 min mark. He is using the ign coil to illustrate the point of "resonant circuits". It might be a bit high-brow, and much of the RF stuff is above me, but still worth watching.
