Here is the cut-off that will go on the Marmon replacing the PIA Neway ARDAB. It can't have see much use, paint still on the inside of the brake dust shields.

Re: Marmon build

Outer rails are 3/8" the inner liner is 1/4". This does not include the Hendrickson "Bat wing" that goes inside the frame around the spring mounts, so there it is triple framed. Double frame the rest of the whole length. The GVW will not change it is 52,000lbs. The Hendrickson is a 40K same as the Neway it is replacing.
Right now the Marmon is a single 3/8" frame. This compares to my IHC 9670's which are all 1/4" single frame, and I have run those to 168,000 lbs.
It will remain a tractor.
It has the optional radius rods and is rubber bushed, it should do well on hiway, the radius rod restrict somewhat the axle movement that walking beams are famous for. If you were spending its entire life in the woods, you wouldn't want them, but on road they are a bonus.

Re: Marmon build

It looked to long for a tractor frame. So the splice will be under or forward of the cab.

Re: Marmon build

No the cut-off came from a tank truck and most of the extra frame is behind the drives, 67" of frame forward of suspension center line, 110" behind. I will trim the excess and likely remove some of the inner liner as it is not needed.
I will have an inner liner where the outer frame is spliced.
I'll keep the extra frame material .

I always thought it was interesting to look in the mirror and look at the front outside dual while going around a corner in a dump truck.

Re: Marmon build

My Fleetstar on walking beam doesn't have them, and I never noticed it "out of align" on hiway with it. I think when the center bush gets wiped out from hard use, that is when you see it.
