That is an awesome old truck. I really dig the old brass era trucks, they are so simple and functional.

Hey, BRJ. Any experience with this "wooden" Diamond T Cab?
The story goes that Diamond T ran out of standard cabs and started building these. Circa 1946? Only built a few...
I bought one in pieces. The wood is all gone.
I now have a correct metal cab. Do I build with wooden cab or metal cab? I think I have enough parts to build one little flatbed.

The half-finished Diamond T project is on a S-10 chassis. I didn't do it but it looks OK. I like the ride height.

Man, that is a hard call. That wooden framed one is pretty cool looking though.

Never seen a factory wood cab in the 40s,

I was a member of the Diamond T club for years and never saw anything about that.

That red truck cab looks home built, factory wouldn't of been like that in my opinion,

You could buy cowl & chassis from Diamond T, maybe this was one that someone put a homemade cab ON?

I'll contact the sellers. They are my friends. Like I said, the story goes that Diamond T supplied everything but the cabs. Evidently, Fresno, CA had a Diamond T dealer? These trucks came from Fresno and were made right at the end of the war or early post-war. Materials were depleted to say the least. If I remember correctly "they" made several of these "wooden" trucks. At least three: mine, Archie Crippen and the one shown?
I also think the sellers said all these "wooden" trucks were ex-USPS or something like that. Essential services?
I've examined the pieces of my truck and it is very strange.
Cool stuff! Worth more wooden or steel cab? I think I now have all the pieces.
BTW. Mine appears to have identical construction to this one. Mine is a SWB flatbed too, I think.

OK, I got the story on the "wooden cab" Diamond T.
As told to my friends...
Fortier Trucking in Fresno had the UPS contract. They ordered NINE 1946 Diamond T SWB flatbeds from Bryce-Morse Diamond T dealer in Fresno, CA. Diamond T did not have cabs for these trucks. The nine Diamond T "incompletes" were sent to Commercial Body in Fresno and and nine cabs were built for the nine trucks. The pretty one and my truck are two of those nine.
Is the truck worth substantially more with the "wooden cab" and it's history or is it better to put on the "metal" cab I purchased?
My truck is a mess, especially that cab. I get mostly pieces of sheetmetal and very little wood.
BTW, the nine one-ton Diamond T flatbeds each pulled a little trailer while carrying UPS parcels.
