With the new engine going into the R I've been thinking about a way to pre-lube the oiling system since the engine was assembled in '75 and hasn't been run since then. I finally had a bit of time today to work on this. I had a 1gal pancake air compressor tank laying around. I removed the drain petcock and adapted it to an 18" high pressure hose with an 1/8" npt fitting that will screw into a port in the main oil gallery on the side of the engine. I've fitted an air tool fitting to another port allowing me to attach that to regulated shop air (I'm thinking 40-50psi). I installed a removable plug in the 3rd fitting on the tank to allow me to fill the tank with engine oil. Charging this tank while rotating the engine will ensure a nice oil film before cranking the engine at speed.

Your plan is well thought out. The only thing I would add is to remove the sparkplugs to unload the starter during the first lube-up. Good job as always.

On my fuel injection situation, I expect to pay around $1500 - $2000. This is just the cost of having fun. The truck has been very powerful, reliable and economical. I would rather spend a few thousand dollars in repairs than up-grade. As much as I like the newer trucks, I do not get the same warm and fuzzy feeling from them as I do from an OLD IHC or a 2002 Ram Cummins.

I would like to have a 4dr 6bt powered truck someday. Very reliable and powerful mills. I caught wind of an early 50s IH COE in a junkyard not far from here. I think a 4dr COE with a diesel and at least a 9’ pick-up box would be “The Bee’s Knees”. It’s not in the cards any time soon, but maybe someday.

I know you are busy as a dog with two dxxx, but if you could get a picture of that COE four door, I would appreciate it very much. My Dodge/Cummins will be in the shop this Friday. I doubt the truck will leave the shop with much change left out of $2000.
The truck shop is in Port Kells, about a 45 minute drive from here. There is a Diesel Truck shop 10 minutes from here, but ..............................

Whoops. I think I mislead you there. The COE that I mentioned is a plain jane yellow 2dr. I would like to convert it to a 4dr and install a 6bt. Honestly, I don't think that a 7.3 PS would be a bad choice either.

A Cummins has much less potential to become a problem. The 7.3 is a bulky engine and the width can be a situation in an L or R body. I put a 6.9 in an R120 and there was some serious body modifications, but nothing you would have trouble with. I am not a fan of the very complicated HEUI injection system. With this level of complication comes the high cost of repairs. Having said this, the only PS I would ever be convinced to use would be a 7.3. I like the sound of a good running PS. The older idi, NA 6.9 and 7.3 were simple engines and sounded really good.
I bought the BANKS aircleaner cover on Craigslist. I would buy another in a New York Second.

While I agree that the 6BT would be a more "relaxed" fit in an LRS Reg cab, I was thinking that the general engine placement in a COE cab would provide a bit of extra breathing room for a wider mill. I hope to find out some day. :-)

My friend had a COE IHC "L". There is lots of room under the raised cab.

There is a guy in Fernie B.C. that put a Izusu 4bd1t in a 1960 Metro. He posted his swap on the Cummins 4BT Swaps site. It turned out very nice from the way it looks.
