I have always loved the American National Anthem. It stirs my emotions.
While I respect the Canadian National Anthem and I contribute my part, when we are called to stand and sing, I think our anthem could use a little more soul stirring content. Our anthem starts off with, "Oh Canada...…" My mother used to say, "Oh, Nikkinutshop" followed by her letting me know something I did or said should not be repeated.
One such occasion was, I had to fart, in church. I thought I had control enough for a long controlled burn. But, the control part failed. There was a pew rattling and sermon pausing blast. I got the giggles, which only made things worse. Persons in the adjoining pews were covering their noses in anticipation of the fall-out. My brother said "peugh" and I had to leave the building. That was over 60 years ago.
Dating back to the early 1600s, a common exclamation of contempt for a foul odor was pyoo. As English spelling had yet to become standardized, this word was also written as pue, peugh, pew and pue.
