Re: politic on the board

It looks like our Canadian Dairy Farmers are in the sights of the prez. I think his team is not giving him enough information to form a fact filled opinion on what happens in Canadian the dairy system.

Hmm, different perspective: https://news.vice.com/story/trump-throw ... tectionism
And another one that expands a little:https://www.thestar.com/news/world/2017/04/18/canadian-dairy-farmers-being-very-unfair-to-us-counterparts-trump-says.html
It is never as simple as some of our own news portrays it and they like to place ALL blame on the President. Things change, trade agreements can not be written in stone forever, they often need to be renegotiated because things change.

Re: politic on the board

If you read the articles you will find that both the US and most other countries including Canada have some sort of gov run price controls on dairy and have for years. The US subsidizes the dairy sector by buying excess and giving it away to the poor and has done for years. Without some sort of stabilizing control, most dairys would not survive in any country. The cost of setting up and running a dairy is extreme and the running cost are high. Fluxuation in the market would drive most out of the business, as investments need to be exteemly long term. The cost of the equipment, cows and labor on something that can not be stopped or scaled back at market whims, is high. In short, cows need to be milked multiple times a day whether the market is there or not for the output.
It is disingenuous for the US to ridicule Canada for its support when we (and again, most other countries) provide support for our dairies. To say "America first" but condemn Canada for "Canada first" is the height of hypocritism. Protectionism has a cost!

Not just dairy but eggs as well. My nephew bought a chicken ranch and quota is $4.70 per bird x 80k birds. Also there is NO hormones in Canadian chickens. How bout lumber? I can buy Canadian lumber cheaper in Minnesota even with the exchange! Mr Trump has been misinformed.

The Canada Soft-Wood was hit with a 20% tax today. Companies will have to charge 20% more for building a home south of the 49th, now. Canada should be better able to meet the demand for Canadian Softwood lumber in the Orient, now. This tax will hurt the wrong persons. The story is the softwood lumber is being diverted to Asia.
You should understand this simple thing, The end user pays the tax.
