Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

I have and use Mitutoyo These are as good as anything on the market and better than most. I have a digital MAX-CAL caliper by NSK. I have used for 35 years. I also like the dial calipers. The dial is easy to read and understand. The dial models never need batteries. The NSK is very accurate but tough on batteries. It must be manually turned off. I often forget because the newer units turn off automatically. Forgetting guarantees a dead expensive battery
there is a rule with these batteries. They only fail when the store is closed.

Milwaukee 2488-20 M12 Soldering Iron
Has anyone on this forum tried this cordless soldering tool? I am looking at one for myself. Amazon is $99.99 cdn with free shipping and next day delivery.
The local tool store will match the Amazon price, but the tool store wants $9.80 for shipping. The best delivery the tool store offers is 6 days.
I have two WELLER corded soldering guns. The bigger of the two is intermittent at best. I bought it in "the" local tool store. The smaller Weller is a garage take-a-chance purchase. This smaller unit was $5 and it has been reliable for nearly 20 years.
I think I need portability.

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

Trained in the USAF, as a Special Electronics Technician, I have always used a simple, plug-in soldering iron. A cordless unit might be a good alternative. While I have a Weller soldering gun, I always reach for the iron because that’s what I learned on in tech school. IMO, it all depends on personal preference.

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

After I read A bunch of customer reviews, I have decided to not buy this cordless soldering iron. Milwaukee need to improve a few things. The plastic clip that holds the hot tip on the tool melts and the tool becomes useless. Customers complain about no parts or being given warranty replacement tool that fails in a few minutes.

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

Apologies for the late reply. I have not used the milwaukee in question. I don't use it much, but i do have a gas soldering iron which is very good. It comes with a few different nozzles for heat shrinking or a knife for cutting. Luke

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

Coke Zero is on sale at our local store. 30 cans fit nicely in this bottom drawer. I use this stainless toolbox as a file cabinet, in my "office". The other large bottom drawer is full of collectable IHC die-cast trucks and two 100 Years of IHC books.
I used to have several bags of DORETOS in another drawer. I think someone discovered them and I cannot find them today.

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

I want/need a set of ring-end pliers. So, like always I look on Craigslist.

Not a terribly bad deal, but I like to check around. For a few dollars more, I bought a new set on AMAZON.

The delivery will be on Thursday, this week.
I get a new set, without the worry of contacting covid19. I call this, due diligence

I just missed out on an eight-drawer Vidmar cabinet, needed removed from the basement, but well worth the $100 asking price. Five minutes late.

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

A local paint shop had 6 LISTA cabinets for sale. The asking price was $200, each. I offered $500 for each in keeping with the "or best offer" and was turned down by the seller. I was the second caller and was standing there with the cash. Caller number one had not made an appearance yet. 73050
