Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

I was looking at my 50 plus hammers collection yesterday. While each hammer has a side story, these few are my favorites and long term residents. The Leather handle Estwing were from my Dad when I started in the sheetmetal trade. the wood handle thinner's harmer was my Dad's.
The heavier cross pein fell off a cement truck and hit the bumper on my R120. I stopped and picked it up. The truck driver wanted to fight about it, but I had the hammer and the advantage.
I had to drill out the welded in solid bar handle. After an hour of filing out the hole in the hammer head, I fitted the wood handle. That was 30 years ago.
Sweat equity is a wonderful thing.
Surely others must have an interesting tool in their toolbox?

While each hammer has a side story

Thats for sure,,

Collecting tools is nice...

These hickey's and their memories have helped me build industrial systems of all types..
Learned on several of them,

Couple of em I've had since high school...
Not many can say they still have a couple hickeys from high school...

the old saying if it could talk , when it comes to an experienced
craftsmen and his connection to his tools they do.
The big yellow one in the middle is a real nut cracker. Don't ask ! :)

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

Here is a good idea or a tip for anyone using AEROQUIP stainless braided hose and fittings.
I can say, with confidence, that anyone who has ever tried to install a fitting on Aeroquip braided hose has experienced some amount of blood letting. The wire braid likes to fray and pose a real threat for a person like myself. I am on blood thinners.
After a few blood lettings, on the first two of 100 connections, I went on the internet to find a better solution. I bought kits 468 AND 681 from a local distributor.
The tools made by Kool Tool are well thought out by an old guy like me.
KOOL TOOL make and sell a well designed selection of tube and Aeroquip hose installation tools. Summit
Racing is a good retailer for Kool Tools. https://www.summitracing.com/search/brand/koul-tools.
Amazon is another source. Do your due diligence for the best pricing.

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

Looking for a recommendation on a decent quality but economical digital micrometer. Would rather not go chinese. Are there any decent ones out there you would recommend?

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

Sadly, the best priced digital micrometers and calipers are made off-shore. I buy only STARRETT. I have to be careful, because there are off-shore copies for sale.
Abomb79 of You Tube fame uses the SHARS brand. He says they are accurate. KBC TOOLS have this brand. They ship.

Nikki, I am ok with offshore. It looks like Mitutoyo is a decent brand? $100 for a 6" caliper. I had said micrometer but i meant caliper. I just want to buy one and have it be the last one i need unless i need bigger.

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

Looks like a 6" Starrett is around $ 100 also. I know they are good. I just know you usually get what you pay for but always thinking there may be something out there. Probably not worth the risk if you want it accurate. I have a cheapo Grizzly dial version now. Not so good... Thanks for your help.

Re: WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX?

We electricians use stanley mine goes from 1/16 of an inch to 16 feet, for smaller measurements we use the RPH gauge.
If you need to ask what an RPH gauge is your obviously not an electrician.
Good luck with your search,,
