Re: OUR 40 FORD

Just a few more pictures. Unfortunately, the corner ash-trays that form part of the dash were missed in the folds of the transport blue blanket and when the blanket was taken out, the blue ash-trays went flying and rolled down the apron of the shop. That's life. I called the body and paint guy and he will be pleased to fix the minor damage.
I happened to have an extra grill chin piece, so I had the original and a reproduction painted. It is the lowest part of the car and right at the front and always gets road rash and some parking curb damage, if the driver is less than cautious. The other little piece is a home-made wire cover that hides the bulkhead fitting and wires from open view. The cover is held in place with the stainless securing screw on the bulkhead fitting. The delivery date is getting closer. I agreed to have the Ford set aside for a day or two while a MASERATTI is in for some minor freshening up. I am thinking the Ford will be coming home next Monday.

Ooooocccchhhh

That's the only real drama with getting everything painted and then having to move it, also you don't realise how many little bits and pieces there are.

Keep up the pictures.

Is that were my Maserati is getting repaired. Lol

Re: OUR 40 FORD

I thought it might be yours, the controls are on the wrong side.
Bits and pieces, lots of them, for sure. I want to get a bunch of Ford and IHC stuff zinc chromate plated. The pile is building. I like the look and protection. I discovered that cadmium is seldom used because of it is toxic .
I bought two 50# bags of aluminum oxide abrasive to blast the parts before plating. $59.95 per bag. I was cruising CRAIGSLIST,yesterday, and bought two bags of glass beads for $10 each.
CRAIGSLIST can be a great resource. I bought a GM tilt column for my son’s L project. It was $20. For a few years, I was buying any GM, no key, tilt column I could find. I've bought, rebuilt and sold more than 50. Other columns were reduced to parts and there are lots of them left. There are tools specific to the GM column and well worth the small expense.

Re: OUR 40 FORD

The bodyshop guy sent 15 pictures and promised another 50 later this evening. I am so pleased with his work. I have liked this color since 2003 when my wife gave me an FLHTCI for our anniversary. I don't have much to say and this is a first, for me.
these pictures are of the paint before the clear-coat.

Re: OUR 40 FORD

now for something really nice from Greg's shop.
All of the original stainless trim will go back on the car. I made a stainless grill for the supercharger air intake on the hood, right side. The high polished bars pick up the body colour and become less obvious.
In 1940, this car had very little flashy trim other than the boot handle. The lid now opens electrically or by a Boden cable. The great lump that was the handle went to a restorer.

Re: OUR 40 FORD

What is in your front room?
I seldom go in there, so up until a few days ago I just didn't know for sure. Well the truth is that I am not allowed to frequent the living room unless I am going to play the organ, quietly. It is my wife's "place" of collectables and GIBBARD furniture. So when she offered to push her things aside and temporarily store our FORD painted parts in her room, I was pleased and more than a little surprised.

Re: OUR 40 FORD

Now that you have "things" in her room, is she going to dust them too, or is that now going to be your task?

Re: OUR 40 FORD

I wouldn't let that one go but just be carful she might now take over some of your man cave space.
