MY GOOD FRIEND DIED TODAY.

He was called Union Jack. Jack was a true friend and a person who made those of us that knew him try to better and think of others first . Jack was a rough as a badger and when he spoke his commanding voice and size demanded total attention. There is a good write-up about Jack on the Global Television site. I found a nice video of Jack on You Tube.
I saw Jack at lunch this summer. His big smile and booming voice made me feel welcome when he called out, "Over here". Jack extended his hand and his grip, at 82 was firm and I imagined the bones in my hand sounding like breaking soda crackers. Jack rode his Harley until last year. He was truly a man among men and did not suffer fools.
I found a new copy of a book that Jack had written. It was in the basement of an old book store on Hasting street. I got Jack to sign the book. He was moved to think that I had made the effort to find UNION JACK. The book is a good read. It can be truly said that Jack Monro left the Province of British Columbia, labour and safety awareness in much better condition than it was decades ago.
We could all feel better about the future if there were more Jack Monro style of leaders in the industry.
