When I lived in Alberta many years ago, Ian Tyson lived a few miles from us. It was many years later I was shopping for a Bronco when I found a nice used one. The dealer said it was owned by Ian Tyson, he traded it in for a new Ford "F" truck.
This guy could sing the phonebook and I would get emotional.

Re: Virtual Front Porch

Our dog just got home from the pet hospital. She had some minor surgery. After several hours of recovery from the amnestic she is still looking "out-of-sorts. The explosion of joy is very much subdued. All I could get was a slow tail wag. The next 24 hours will require extra attention from all of us here. I hope we can limit the use of "the-cone-of-shame'. 101336

Re: Virtual Front Porch

I went to a medical testing lab yesterday. The temperature was above 34C in the parking-lot. My test results came back late yesterday. It looks like I might be around for a little while yet. I don't do well in the heat.
The only significant situation I had was another person parking their vehicle partially in the disabled parking nest to my truck. I could not get my doors open, so I waited for the person to return. What is your best guess for what happened next.102175

I was clearing the top drawer on my roll-top-desk today. I had a pile of lottery tickets. I thought I had checked them all. Since I have the scan app on my Samsung, I thought I might as well recheck them all before they go in the shredder.
This was a fortunate decision, for me. Two of the tickets were for a dollar each and the third one I checked was for a significantly larger amount.
I could have used this money for no good 40-50 years ago. I guess I am going to the bank tomorrow.
It has been a good day.102250

Nice to hear somebody is having some luck on the lottery. I bought a £2.50 euro ticket last week, as there were 10 UK millionaires to be made.....needless to say i did not get a single number....back to the grindstone.

Re: Virtual Front Porch

My "grind-stone" days are over. I just passed my 16 year anniversary of retirement. From here on, I am on a slide to the finish line, whenever that will be.
So, getting a little surprise return on my lottery mad money helps to brighten my daze.
When I used to ride with my friend in the summer months, I would spend $10 each week on a money for life lottery tickets. I never collected the winnings, but, always put the $$$ back in for more chances. After the summers were over. I always broke even when I got my $10 back on the last draw.
This week's winning ticket was my first purchase in over a year.
My best win was when I stopped smoking 40 years ago. I have saved all of the money I would have spent on smoking. The smoke savings account was over a hundred thousand dollars several years ago. 102520

Vancouver Trump Hotel

A local cheer went up as the hotel announced bankruptcy today. I can say, I have never been tempted to set foot in the hotel.
The name on the hotel does not show ownership. There is a subscription paid for the name.

Re: Virtual Front Porch

Was sitting in Glendive MT when the truckstop got a visit from the "ghost fleet". For those that don't know what this is, it is a fleet of unmarked trucks run by the military. At 1st glance they look like most other trucks, these were powder blue Peterbults with more antenna sprouting from the truck and trailers, each had its own "chase vehicle" a crew cab GMC with dual wheels and winches front and rear. Unlike commercial trucks, which must have identifying numbers and lettering as to the owner, these have no markings whatsoever. Hense they got the nickname, Ghost fleet.
I know there are some who say " without pictures it never happened" but these are the type you defiantly don't want to be taking pictures of, if you don't want to get in trouble.
Trailers were all 40 Stainless Steel vans, other than the antenna on the roof, the other odd thing were the wedge brakes, most everything commercial has either S cam or disk brakes.
The stayed for about an hr than took off westbound, I suspect for Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls.

Ghost fleet

" without pictures it never happened"

It happened alright, wish you had taken some pictures..

In my younger days while working for Westinghouse they did and I understand still do use Ghost fleets
for transport of fuel cells etc for special projects , due to plutonium content , it was not unusual
to have up to 8 rigs with armed guards, and yes as you say typical was the powder blue cabs with stainless
trailers all unmarked bristling with antennas,, I would bet that is what you saw..
I have wired up a few of those trailers.

Just yesterday by coincidence a neighbor buddy came back from Florida from his job, he is a tech for the INL in Idaho
and mentioned about the escorts... His escort was 12 rig just as you described for
fuel cells made at the lab , so cool in design but oh so deadly in the wrong hands.
Quite a few of my neighbors work out at the site.. Military assist with most of these transports.

I doubt its anything more than that... But conspiracy theories are always on someones menu.. :)

I am just glad that such a fleet exists,, can never be to careful. IMO ..

Be well.

Re: Virtual Front Porch

Buddy Sombart (RIP) collected a few of the ghost fleet Marmon Cabovers, even had one retrofitted with a wheelchair lift and hand controls so he could drive it to shows. Although he has been gone for over 10 years those trucks still make some truck shows.
Another interesting rig is the one that moves and sets missiles in the silo's , whole trailer stands on its tail to lower the missile into the silo, they use Pete cabover to keep the OVL down. Used to Have Detroit's coupled with Allison's but not sure if they still do.
