My son started his apprenticeship today. The journeyman he is working with was my apprentice twenty-five years ago.
I gave my son one my vintage toolboxes. This toolbox is older than my son. The toolbox is in really good condition. This vintage box is about 50 years old.
I know he will need some proper prybars, so I am gifting him a set of MAYHEW pry bars and a set of pinches. I see these bars on AMAZON for a reasonable price. I have over 200 pair of Petersen vise grips. I know we can pick out a few pair for him.

Commercial Transport Mechanic.

I knew before he did, he could do this. Both he and his sister have good mechanical skills. My daughter is teaching pre apprenticeship metal trades in a high school. She had been able to pass some of her students on to apprenticeships. This includes finding an employer who is willing to take her student, on her recommendation. She did her apprenticeship with one of the railroads companies.
I got one of my friends who worked in the same department as my son to encourage him. Sometimes it takes a little outside push from "the village".
We bought each of them a Jeep Wrangler for their first cars. They had to do the maintenance questions welcomed. Both of the kids kept their Wranglers for a decade. Both Jeeps were sold for twice what we paid originally. Both of them drive new Jeep Grand Cherokees that they paid for. No credit.

My son left for work at 05:00. He had cleaned and salted our sidewalks, yesterday. As soon as he stepped onto the roadway, his feet went out from under him, and he landed on a knee. He had to call in sick.
I did mention that we live on a steep street. The improved view carries a slip and fall risk when the snow melts then freeze.
