Re: Corona Virus

In my state (confusion? no Iowa) I was alarmed when we were seeing new case rates of 100 per day, few wearing masks, today were are seeing over 4000 per day with a corresponding rise in death and hospitalization rates.
Our state governor has made it "Illegal" for schools to close without state approval, has resisted all attempts for mask mandates and closures. She has finely started to face the the fact that if she doesn't do something that the hospitals will be turning people away. This is not unique to Iowa, most surrounding st states are in similar position. Nebraska, South and North Dakota are all in a similar position. All have state government made up of the same party, any guesses on which? Minn is in better shape because they took early action but there they have a divided government and there are law suits back and forth over the restriction.
Once our hospitals start to turn people away, there will be no place to send them, all the states around us are in the same position.
South Dakota stockpiled Hydrocloriquine when Trump was saying it would kill the virus, I can remember how much but it was in the millions of doses. How did that turn out? The still have no mask mandate and had Bike week and big campaign rallies that were big spreader events.
Long ago we as a society decided that "your right" to kill your self by smoking does not trump my right to not breath you exhaled smoke. The same holds true here. your "right" to not mask up does not give you the right to put others endanger for your foolishness.
I have already buried one friend, and death isn't the only long term outcome from this, many who get badly sick, do not fully recover, they may not die, but aren't "back to normal" either. There is a good chance that I will get it, my parents will die from it, and I will lose a lot more friends, before this is over.

Re: Corona Virus

It's spiking here as predicted so we are back to shelter at home, and only essential businesses are open and masks are required in public. I shiver to think what it would be like here now if our last governor (Rep.) wasn't defeated and replaced by Democrat. I am looking forward to some real leadership after Jan,20 and a more sensible approach by all 50 states although red states will most likely balk at that. Right now too many people are dying needlessly.

Re: Corona Virus

The UK was also spiking, just like many other countries. England is just over 2 weeks into the 2nd lockdown and we are just going under the 20000 cases in a day. Deaths are still pretty high, today just under 400. Tomorrow Boris will give details about restrictions once we have come out of lockdown and what we maybe able to expect to happen come christmas time.

A guy i work with got the virus back in April, which in turn his wife and then daughter got it also. All thankfully survived, however his daughter who was not that bad at all and was only ill for a few days, still has no taste and smell. This was 6 months ago!! Covid and its on going symptoms will be here for a long time.

Wear masks, wash hands and be safe.

Re: Corona Virus

This area is having another grey overcast day. That combined with the C19 lockdown make my cabin fever feel like more of a burden. The highlight of staying home is our dog. She is such a bundle of joy. My daughter had her at the groomer yesterday. When the dog came home she was so overjoyed to see her family. She ran around the house for nearly and hour greeting us. Right now the dog is in her indoor kennel after having gathered all of her toys and chew things. She appears to be sleeping, but I would not count on that.

Re: Corona Virus

A friend from Va. sent this email to me in Fl. Nikkinutshop can verify if the person referenced is credible or not, but the text seems to make sense to me.

Dr. Bonnie Henry is the Provincial Health Officer for British Columbia, the first woman in this position. She is also an associate professor at the University of British Columbia. She has a background
in epidemiology and is a specialist in public health and preventive medicine. She is also from PEI (Prince Edward Island).

The Wisdom of Dr. Bonnie Henry.

1. We may have to live with COVID-19 for months or years. Let's not deny it or panic. Let's not make our lives useless. Let's learn to live with this fact.
2. You can't destroy COVID-19 viruses that have penetrated cell walls, by drinking gallons of hot water. You'll just go to the bathroom more often.
3. Washing hands and maintaining a two-meter physical distance is the best method for your protection.
4. If you don't have a COVID-19 patient at home, there's no need to disinfect the surfaces at your house.
5. Packaged cargo, gas pumps, shopping carts and ATM's do not cause infection. If you wash your hands, live your life as usual.
6. COVID-19 is not a food infection. It is associated with drops of infection like the Flu. There is no demonstrated risk that COVID-19 is transmitted by food.
7. You can lose your sense of smell with a lot of allergies and viral infections. This is only a non-specific symptom of COVID-19.
8. Once at home, you don't need to change your clothes urgently and go shower! Purity is a virtue, *paranoia is not*!
9. The COVID-19 virus doesn't hang in the air for long. This is a respiratory droplet infection that requires close contact.
10. The air is clean; you can walk through the gardens and through parks (just keep your physical protection distance).
11. It is sufficient to use "normal soap" against COVID-19, not antibacterial soap. This is a virus, not a bacterium.
12. You don't have to worry about your food orders. But you can heat it all up in the microwave if you wish.
13. The chances of bringing COVID-19 home with your shoes is like being struck by lightning twice in a day. I've been working against viruses for 20 years — drop infections don't spread like that!
14. You can't be protected from the virus by taking vinegar, sugarcane juice and ginger! These are for immunity not a cure.
15. Wearing a mask for long periods interferes with your breathing and oxygen levels. Wear it only in crowds.
16. Wearing gloves is also a bad idea; the virus can accumulate into the glove and be easily transmitted if you touch your face. Better just to wash your hands regularly.
17. Immunity is weakened by always staying in a sterile environment. Even if you eat immune boosting foods, please go out of your house regularly to any park/beach. Immunity is increased by EXPOSURE TO PATHOGENS, not by sitting at home and consuming fried/ spicy/sugary food and aerated drinks.

Be smart and stay informed! Live life sensibly and to the fullest.

Re: Corona Virus

Doctor Bonny Henry has the highest level of respect in British Columbia. I cannot say enough good about her. Her leadership has kept us among the lowest infection and death rate in the world. Of course there are a few persons who violate the covid19 modus operandi and put others at greater risk. This can be an arrestable offense. The fines can be thousands of dollars with jail time a possibility.
This is a serious problem and a time for responsible leaders to cooperate. It is often the evangelicals posing the most resistance to the covid19 rules.

Re: Corona Virus

Things are going south pretty quick in the UK. Large parts of England are going back into another lock down, with a stay at home if possible/ essential travel only policy. We have been hit with a new strand on Covid which is more contagious and spreading faster than when it first struck the UK. 10 Countries have put us on the no fly zone. I get the feeling that now a vaccine is available people just seem to have let their guard down.

Have a safe and Merry Christmas. Luke
