GDI is relatively new and it will be the standard for all gasoline fueled engines. Common rail with Piezo injectors changes everything for Diesel and gasoline engines.
I like to see tradesmen return to school. It is mandatory to stay current.

Does anyone remember the "Texaco Stratified Charge" engine from the 70"s. Did similer things, had a large very lean mixture in the cyl with a rich mixture at the top near the plug, the rich mixture started the lean burning. Never made much past the R&D stage.

CB, Honda probably bought the rights for that and it became their "CVCC" stratified charge motor.
It was used right up until fuel injection hit in the 1980s.
I'm sure you remember seeing "CVCC" on their cars. It was a big selling point. I'm sure "Civic" came from "CVCC".
