Budd Wheels

As some know, I am no fan, but this one has earned my grudging respect. I cleaned and painted, getting it ready to mount a new 10.00 R 20 tire to go on my '83 cabover. The paint serves several purposes. 1st it keeps the rust in check, 2nd it encapsulates rust that didn't loosen when wire brushed keeping it from working its way between the tube and tire, and 3rd it provides a smooth surface for the flap to slide on.
When painting, I came across the date code of Feb, 1948!
The Rim came from my 1950 Dart oilfield truck.

Re: Budd Wheels

There are many who would discard that rim. I have seen worse looking ones still in use, as long as the ring seats and as you say, no chaffing of things.

Re: Budd Wheels

The lighting and shading (ment to bring out the date stamp) make the rim look much worse than it real is. Add to that the light paint, which make the dark shadows seam like deep pits.
