Large IHC V8 Diesel

I know for a limited time IHC put their large V8 diesel in class 8 semi's I was somewhere north of 800 CID and had 4 heads I think. Has anyone ever seen one in a class 8 tractor? I've only seen pictures in a manual somewhere. Anyone seen one in real life? It seams they were short lived in trucks, only being offered for a few years and then were gone, kinda like the Allis Chalmers "Big AL" purple inline six, it self a re-design of the Buda 844 CID engine.

I gather you mean the V-800? I only saw one, I thought it very similar to the 903 Cummins and sounded like them too.
IIRC it was in a 70 something Transtar conv.

The V800 was used in tractors through 1981-

I've never heard of the DT817 that was with the stuff on V8 800, I am suprized it was never a "truck engine". Seams like a more likely competitor to the Cat and Cummins of the day then the V8.
BTW I have been on and around that big Hendrickson, it is like climbing on a locomotive!

Re: Large IHC V8 Diesel

Kinda makes you wonder why after the huge success of the DT-466 IH didn't try to market the 817?
Maybe they didn't want to ruffle any feathers, like with Cummins who they had a very strong relationship with?

The DT817 was used in the 4300 tractor-

and also in the TD25 and TD30 dozers and Hough 100C and 120C loaders.
