Im worn out, but what about the truck?

I just bought a 1951 roadliner L185. It is still at the yard waiting for the title to come through. It says that it has 80,000 miles on it. On the old large trucks is this a lot of miles? It was stored under cover for 40 years the engine is free and everything seems to be there. It cost $750.00.

Sorry my kid isn't here to rotate the picture for me.
Help! I'm stuck in the garage and I can't seem to pull myself out.

Nothing better than a nap on the creeper under the old truck.

If those are actual true miles,it's barely broken in BUT engine hours will add to that figure. Thing is,if there's no hour meter it's pretty much impossible to know the true mileage an engine has on it.

Being it's a 185 you have a Red Diamond, either 372,406 or 450 with a slim chance of a 501. The RD engines are close to indestructible when maintained good, not built for speed though, they were built to work and can chug along all day.
Back in my dealer days there were still quite a lot still on the road. We didn't stock a real lot of parts for them either, didn't need to. I think we sold more exhaust components than anything and can only recall selling maybe 5 rebuilt engines.

Those are the miles on the spedo. The truck has a big ol wench and used to have a boom. They were run off of a P.T.O. on the tranny. So I am shure the engine has a lot more hours than the truck.

WENCH : A stout, voluptuous maiden. Usually associated with the Rennaissance and taverns, where the wench is pictured as a bar-maid, boldly flirting with the swashbucklers and pirates.
Little wonder that you are worn out. "Them thar wenchs" can do that to a guy.
But, can she bring the beer, cook and domestic chores?
