VIn Number

I have a 1974 2110 with ownership and VIN Number 8597G26642. I am trying to find this matching number on the frame. There are no numbers or plates on the cab that I can find. I have found numbers stamped into the outside of both frame rails just behind the steering boxes but they do not match the vin that I have on the ownership. Any suggestions where to look?

Re: VIn Number

That number you posted doesn't seem correct for a '74 and is missing a digit anyway.
What are the numbers on the left frame rail? They are what should be used. The data plate would be on the driver side door.

Here's some pix I took from IH parts manuals that should help.

1968-1972

With the above the year letter would go up 1,ie: 1975 EGA1xxxxx etc.
The Fleetstar "A" was last produced in 1977. They were built in Ft.Wayne and possibly the WTO (Western Truck Operations) in Emeryville,Ca.

BTW,questions for trucks should be in the appropriate model section, this model would be in "Large Trucks".

VIN Numbers

My 1974 2110 Fleet Star has a Canadian VIN number on the ownership and a number stamped into the left frame rail that do not match. Could this mean there has been a conversion on this truck? If wanting to transfer ownership to a person in the US. What do I need to know or do?

Re: VIn Number

If you determine that your truck was made in the USA, then possibly a change was made when brought to Canada. If Made in Canada, Hopefully someone there can help, not a lot of that kind of info exists for Canadian trucks.
My thoughts on this.

Re: VIn Number

Nothing larger than Loadstars were built in Chatham that I'm aware of. The numbers on the frame can be used to obtain a copy of the LST which should show where it was built. It's possible the data plate was removed from the door, they're a bit large to miss.
