Vacation...

So, it's time again to visit the US... This time it's NYC. Anyone have any tips about what we just have to check out?
The obvious (empire, statue of liberty, ellis island, ground zero and such) is on the list already. :)

Paul! can't miss Broadway, even if just to look at the many, many theaters. The flood damage is less nice, but,it awakens one to what can happen.
Carnegie hall has always intrigued me. Manny

p.s.I've never been there, but I'd like to.

Re: Vacation...

Been about 25 years since I've been there, but if you're going to be there for Christmas, you have to go to Rockefeller Center for the ice skating and Giant Christmas Tree. And you should go to FAO Schwartz Toy Store. Central Park.

Don't know what kind of music you're into, but I tried to go to CBGBs (birth of punk rock location) when I was there and ran out of time (+ it looked like I might die if I tried). It was a bar then, kind of a museum now. If you go to the Hard Rock Cafe, take the time to do the (free) guided basement tour. If it's anything like the London tour- it's awesome. House of Blues.

Lots of great museums- Guggenheim (building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright), Museum of Modern Art, American Museum, Frick Collection, the Cloisters etc.
"How the heck did that happen?"

Re: Vacation...

Done the Rockefeller Plaza. Must say that I was a little disappointed with the Christmas tree. I thought it would be bigger, and filled with even more bling.
The Ground Zero memorial was kind of emotional. Not that I have any friends or family that were there when it happened, but I still felt a big sadness being there and seeing the two pools. Guess I'm a emotional guy...

Re: Vacation...

Three items from the list done today.... The Harry Potter Exhibition, Ripley's Believe it or not, and Madame Tussauds.
The Harry Potter exhibition really wasn't worth it. Just some props from the movie, nothing else. No photo allowed either.
Ripley's was worth every penny, and then some. I learned a lot, and I recommend any one who gets to NYC to go there.
Madame Tussauds was also a good run for the money. The thing that made the biggest impression was the Super Heroes 4D show. Great!

So far I've snapped about 400 pics. There will be a lot more to wade through and organize when getting home...
