Bad gas tank

Just got a 1952 pickup with a bad gas tank. any thoughts on a replacement? I dropped the tank and took it to a radiator shop to see if they could save it, but they said it was to far gone. Please help.

Re: Bad gas tank

This is a reoccuring theme here.
If you can't fix what you have then:
You find a good used one online or at the wrecking yard.
You send what's left of yours to gas tank renu.
About $500 or so later, voila!
I sometimes use a Japanese made pickup gas tank like Mazda or Courier.
Let us know what you decide.

Re: Bad gas tank

somebody posted a thread sometime back about using a tank from a late model F150. they are readily available on ebay and not expensive.

Re: Bad gas tank

I've been looking at the 53-55 Ford truck gas tank for a while. It seems to be real close to the same size as my 56 IH S100 series and maybe could be made to fit. Hopefully I won't have to after I clean my tank out but I've never had good luck with just having them cleaned. I'll see if I can measure mine today, it's just sitting on the shelf.

Re: Bad gas tank

I recall Mr. Buzzman measured his tank and thought the ford tank was an inch or two large, I see they make poly tanks in that model tank.
I think this would work on the passenger side as well as the drivers side.

Re: Bad gas tank

This poly tank for the 53-55 Ford F-100 is just a little smaller than the metal tank for the same truck by the same supplier.

Re: Bad gas tank

If I remember right someone on here was looking into having Tanks Inc. in Monicello, Iowa see if they could make the IH tank for R,L and S trucks. Couldn't tell you what posting that was in.

Re: Bad gas tank

Kserver, what are your dimensions on the original tank with the flange? I had contacted Tank Inc by certified mail with the repop tank stuff, I had it edited by a pro, no answer, no reply. Kinda like the old Elvis tune, lol. I tried to explain there was a market for the oldihctrucks.
