I was at an IHC event in Alberta and one of the KB owners had a BBC in his "K". His assessment of his truck and engine combination was, " too much engine and too little traction." An SBC will be more than powerful enough for one of these pickups and may be all an original frame can handle. Frame boxing is not a simple event and if done incorrectly the frame will be destroyed.

I shoehorned a Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinder into a very similar D-2 engine bay. It very nearly did not fit. The a/c compressor just about kisses the radiator support.
If Nikki says a BBC will fit, maybe the firewall is moved back? Radiator moved forward?
Surely not enough room for alternator/PS/ ac compressor/condenser/fan / radiator?

here is a 302. i had to add a pusher fan since there was no room for a puller or mechanical fan.

probably have to modify steering column, you can see Rick's truck has independent front suspension and a newer steering set up,

that is usually the main problem, steering box, plus you'll need to cut rear engine support crossmember out, there is a lot to do to put a V-8 in,

I have a Ford 289 V8 with FMX 3 speed in my 49' KB2.
It has 2" of clearance between the 6 blade mechanical fan, and the Champion Aluminum Rad.
Fabbed a 3' deep shroud and it all seems to fit in there nice.

But that nice fitting SBF stuff will be out of there soon in favor of some SBC stuff.
