making progress

this past weekend made a bit of progress on the KB 1. the frame is completely boxed now, and put in a tubular cross member. I had a cross member from an abandoned falcon project and modified it to work with the truck frame. it has a driveshaft loop, not that it is needed, but more of I had it and the cross member was originally set for it, so why not.

Re: making progress

I have the cab tilled up on the firewall now, working on the underside of the cab. I have removed the undercoating, which was only under the seat area, and wire wheel in a die grinder removed the surface rust. a small amount of rust out, nothing major, and all easy to repair. several stress cracks, which should also be easy to repair. my goal is to get all the metal work complete over the memorial day weekend.

Re: making progress

Don't miss that messy job, at least it is only minor rust. I put the Tremec 5 spd in my Trans Am a few years back. I love it. Keep up the good work.

Re: making progress

the end of the transmission in the photo is a tremec 6 speed. I do have the five in my 65 mustang. my 2015 mustang has the 5.0 coyote and 6 speed, so I thought why not for this truck.

Re: making progress

I love this pics. I wish I had the vision when I did my exhaust. A lot of time welding up exhaust under the truck.

Re: making progress

I fitted the parts together and just did tack welds. I removed the parts, put the cats and mufflers back in the boxes, and have now fully welded the joints. Next step is to take out the engine/trans and paint the frame. then I can start bolting on suspension, etc.

Re: making progress

a bit more progress. Have now painted the frame, used POR 15. My first time with this product and it seems to provide a good finish. I brushed it on, and it flows nice to eliminate most brush marks. Have also now installed the rear suspension which is a four link, and the fuel tank. next up is the front suspension, and put the motor and transmission back in.

Re: making progress

I now have the cab on the frame, and bed blocked up as the shop wheels are a bit tight and slightly rub the bed sides. Getting it ready to transport to its new home.
