1948 KB5 is SOLD!!

The 1948 KB5 I posted in the "Classified" section, has been SOLD!! I decided that I couldn't pass up a DEAL like this, for $500.00!! Pictures tell the story....https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-vLoo ... G_0134.JPG I'd like to find a '71-'75 1000,to 1300,(or Travelall), 4X4,for the frame and drive-train. Preferably a 304,Granny 4-speed,with 3:73 gears. There's one out there somewhere! There's a '75 1300 dump truck,(2WD), in the same town as the KB5,but the guy will not sell that truck for anything!! Smart man!! The BEST truck I ever owned was a '65 1000 1/2-ton! With a 304,it got 22 M.P.G.,in city driving!! It had a Delco distributor, but the cap was the same as a "Ferd" small-block! Quite a difference in price!! "Ferd"=$5.25,and I.H.C. listed at $22.50-These prices were from 1985,not sure what they are now.

Re: 1948 KB5 is SOLD!!

The KB5 is being delivered Tuesday. I'm still looking for a 60-'75 1/2,or 3/4 ton 4X4,or Travelall frame with a V-8,4 speed. Reason being, there are 3 IHC buses, and a 2-ton,on the farm, where the truck is being worked on. All are 1600's,and have 345's,and 2 have O.D. Clark 5-speeds. Silver diamonds are GOOD engines, but not sure about parts availability? I'll keep you posted on the progress. THANKS!!

It looks like you are being ignored. I'm watching and enjoying. Having fun with your Binder, your way, is good.

I like the patina. Looks like a great starting point.

Me,too! I'm not planning on repainting this one, either. Probably nick name it "Crabapple".

Re: 1948 KB5 is SOLD!!

i went out and started getting the KB5 ready for the swap. I got the spark plugs out of the GRD,and filled the cylinders with Marvel Mystery oil, since the engine is stuck. i removed the seat back, but I'm having trouble with the rear bolts on the seat frame. Removed the speedo, choke, and throttle cables,as well as engine/frt end wiring harness.Cab bolts are a BEAR!! Half of them snapped off,by the hinge support, and I still have the running boards and radiator support bolts to remove, hopefully tomorrow. Got the windshield to crank-out,and the surround is all intact! Unfortunately, mice got up in the wiper motors' area, and that whole section is rotted away. I might cut that section out,and build a wooden replacement? THOUGHTS!! I HOPE to have the front clip, and possibly the cab removed tomorrow. I still need to remove the shifter, and the lever for the PTO. Time to bring out the cut-off grinder, for the cab bolts! I'll post some pic's tomorrow night. THANKS!!

Re: 1948 KB5 is SOLD!!

The mice and water had rotted out the box above the windshield on my KB1 also. I made a new one. I cut out the old one between the hinges. I used a pipe, some C Channel and C clamps to put the long radius bends into a 2 foot long piece of 16 gauge. I then cut it in half and made the center miter joint. Welded it in and a little body filler and it looks perfect. It just took a lot of time. Most of a weekend if I remember correctly.
