Re: KS5 ? What are my engine options

Kevin in the L,R and S forum has turbo-ed his SD 220 with a draw through carb set-up, look in there and read his posts. He used a tractor engine turbo set-up since his engine is so close to the tractor engine. On the GRD, all the manifolds would have to be custom made, but it is doable. I have a fresh GRD in the barn that I have toyed with the idea of putting a turbo on it, but need another truck to put it in.

Bill

I am thinking it would be cool. Just looked at Kevin's set up very nice.

Sent the company an email will see what they come back with.

Re: KS5 ? What are my engine options

Just been speaking with an automotive engineer regarding engine swap.

Without major upgrades like collapsible steering column and some other bits I need to keep the upgrade below 20% increase in power.

GRD = 93hp @3400rpm. 4BT = 105hp @2400 so those figure's make it OK.

The next issue is engine weight over the front axle.

The dry weight on the 4BT is 570lbs

? Does anyone have a brochure with the dry weight on the GRD233 I think its about the same but will need a document with it on.

If all goes well wont need to do to many modification.

Re: KS5 ? What are my engine options

A little more on this.

Spoke with the engineer today and these are some of the things I need to do to get it approved.

Modify brake circuit to a duel type, upgrade tyres to max rating, install seat belts, install air vents to windscreen, replace all window glass with approved type and install collapsible steering Colum.

Bill I will leave the turbo to you after talking with a few people I don't think I have deep enough pockets for that.

Something like this is what I am now looking at installing.

Trevor,
I think you'd be happy with that drivetrain. Steering columns aren't hard to find. Adapting to a dual circuit master on a hydrovac system sounds difficult.

Love that engine and trany choice, that one should be 130 HP and almost 400 ft lbs of torque stock and it is easy to turn up. That one is my choice all the way.

Take it a step further and run it on old deep fryer oil..... Once set up you can run the engine on old transmission oil/motor oil/deep fryer oil. Fellow I know collects old oil and stores in 2000l cubes,,,all free

Had to make a quick decision yesterday as I found out if I could get it to Strafford, MO , 65757 before Thursday I could get it into a container being loaded on Friday and coming my way. So deal Done early yesterday morning and its on its way tracking information has it arriving early Thursday Morning so in the container she will go, should see it in about 6-8 weeks time. Then the fun starts.

Seller was fantastic to deal with and even sent a video of it started up and running for me.

Re: KS5 ? What are my engine options

Trevor,
Do you know if you are required to have a tandem master cylinder or is a dual system from the hydrovac to the wheel cylinders sufficient?
