Re: Latest pic of truck

I like the idea of a wind-up for the spare. One of the truck magazines that I subscribe to had a how-to in it not too long ago on that very subject...I think they disguised the hole for the handle with a flip-up light socket that they took the guts out of.

Re: Latest pic of truck

I have the windup type on my 91 toyota truck,,they work very well but must be maintained in our climate. I drop my spare down a couple times a year and lube the cable and winch. Without maintenance they will seize/rust and then not so easy to get a spare down on the side of the road....

Re: Latest pic of truck

I bought a late model Ford unit, exactly like, or close anyway, to the one in my 01 F150. That truck sits outside and has from day one and show no signs of rust on the cable, or any where on the mechanism for that matter. I lower the spare down every 5000 miles to check the air pressure when I rotate the tires, sometimes more often, especially when the seasons change.

That is Neat Rick, What do you figure it cost to make? Wonder if others would like something like that?

My buddies and I spent last week getting the K1 ready for a Back to the 50s car show in Minneapolis. Here is a shot from Wednesday of me welding up the exhaust.
