Re: Repowering

It's a great looking truck that will be on the road again! Can't beat that!

Re: Repowering

Sorry, lost me in the 1st minute. Started with a truck running and backing off the trailer, but it "is beyond hope" and "has" to install a SBC? He may be beyond hope, the engine may be beyond his ability to repair, but the engine swap was done because he WANTED to, which is just as valid a reason as any other, be honest!
Ho-hum another SBC stuffed where it doesn't belong.

Re: Repowering

Maybe CB89 should watch the video again. I did, and I did not see the Old IHC running. The IHC was lowered off the trailer on a winch cable and it was likely pulled onto the trailer with the same winch set-up.
While I am not a SBC guy, most of the time, there comes a time, for me, when it is the practical choice.

Re: Repowering

Your right, I heard the winch and thought it was the truck running. The rest of my comments I stand behind.
Plenty of better choices if all you want is a parade truck.

A better idea. Diesel power.

Re: Repowering

I expect the Merc makes more power than the original SD33?

I bought a Mercedes 300 TD/automatic sedan from a local furniture restoration shop. The keys were lost, so I had it towed home. The furniture guy had been pouring his waste flammables in the Mercedes fuel tank. The seller had tried to get the Merc to start and run, but it stopped after a minute. I spent two days cleaning the fuel system so I could start the engine.
A local curious neighbour stopped and asked if I would sell the engine to him. I more than doubled my investment and the 300td went to a new home. He put the 300td in a Chevy S10.
I think these 300td engines have more than adequate power. There is a person in this area with a 300td in his scout, 2WD.
I had a scrap car business pick up the Mercedes for free.
