front dana 44 wheel bearing spindle nut

Checked my wheels today and had a loose wheel. Found out my inner wheel bearing spindle nut was loose. The outer was still tight, but I have a question about the washer that is between the two nuts. It has a tab that fits inside the spindle groove, is this tab supposed to go over the outer nut or inner nut to keep it from loosening? Or does the tab just stay in the groove? I know spindle nuts usually have a tab that will bend to keep them from loosening, just want to be safe.

This is the spindle lock nut system I prefer over all others. I have this system installed in our Ram 2500 with WARN locking hubs from DYNATRACK. This system of locking for the spindle nuts never wears out and remains adjustable hundreds of times.

Re: front dana 44 wheel bearing spindle nut

The style you have is install the same as below, nut the locking feature is to bend the washer over one of the nuts flats (of the outer nut) to lock it in place after torquing. The tab goes in the slot in the spindle. Only place it can go. Tab faces out.

I like the GM style of nuts with lock washer. Dana Kit p/n 28068X

One nut (with the little pin) goes up against the bearing, tighten it while turning the wheel assy. by hand until it seats the bearing tightly. Use the proper socket with the four drive lugs on it.
Back off the nut 1/6 of a turn or less until the washer (with holes) aligns on it.
Install the lock washer with the tab in the slot, pin from the first nut in one of the washer holes.
Install the second nut to torque spec as shown in the kit.
See attached photo of kit and socket.

What you describe as GM style is the same as the link I posted.

Thanks for the replies, I did not realize you just bend the outer part of the lock washer. I am always learning with this truck. I think I will be buying a different set up.

Thanks
