Binder?

Anybody know anything about the "Binder" model in this thread? I must admit, having IHC's from K's through 9600's and working on and with a fleet that included Loadstars, I had never heard of them. I'm inclined to think it was a dealer thing or if factory, I've never heard or seen one.

Must admit, I am not super up on the Loadstar time of medium trucks, but I would have thought I'd at least heard of them.

Re: Binder?

I have the older hard cover and the later soft cover books by Fredrick W Chrismon I have read and skimmed through these excellent book on International Trucks more than a few times. I do not remember a "BINDER' truck.
It is not beyond the possibility that a dealer could have made a special model. I am thinking of the COPO Chevrolet dealer specials from the 1960s.
My interest is rekindled and since it is raining and my plans to go outside are over for the day, I will have another look and report back.
After a long absence from Smoke Stack, I am back cruising that forum. I do not have anything to contribute, yet.

Re: Binder?

I delivered new school buses back in the 70's, and I recall seeing at least one IH that came with a nameplate that said "BINDER" on it. Certainly looked factory, and not something added by a bus body company.

Re: Binder?

Here is something to think about. It is possible that a metal shaper tradesman could work at Orrville Metal Specialty one month and be at IHC in the next month. I do not know how a person can tell the difference.
I have an Orrville Metal Specialty IHC crewcab. It was made for IHC with supplied IHC parts. This truck was shipped to Canada and sold in British Columbia.
The Comfo-Vision cab had two different doors. The only difference was the height of the window opening. My crewcab came with both door styles. The back of the cab suffered so brutal damage from the hammer of a butt-head making room for a headache rack. I have all of the parts to make the repair and convert the cab to an earlier twin window.
My crewcab is rust free.
Some years later, IHC made their crewcab bodies. I think they were called Travelette.
Orrville Metal Specialty made sleeper-cabs for the Comfo-Vision IHC cabs. These were for the long distance highway trucks.
Pictured below is a four door crewcab made by one of the members of this forum.

Re: Binder?

Nikki,
I have seen you post stuff on your crew cab before. What model IH is that thing considered or tagged as?

Re: Binder?

Also was curious on the wheelbase of the truck. Looks like a maybe a standard truck wheelbase?

Re: Binder?

The crewcab was an R130 with a 6 foot box. The frame was cracked in many places. The frame damage was beyond repair.
The seller destroyed the original box by dragging it behind his dozer.
I bought a pristine R150 frame for the project. This R150 frame is long enough to accommodate an 8 foot box and the extra length of the crewcab.
The R120 frame has the same width as the pickups.

Re: Binder?

I did not measure the frame before it was taken by a scrapper. The frame appeared to be long enough to have had a 6 foot box.

Re: Binder?

Yes, the Loadstar "Binder" was a lighter? duty (cheaper?) version, although could be optioned up some.

Re: Binder?

That's interesting! Didn't know they made those.
