METRO ON THE ROAD???

https://youtu.be/WF3KgJSAmxA
My posting this video is for the entertainment of the few who might look at it. I like the concept, but, in my opinion the execution is very amateur. Check out the bird $hit welding on the floor boards. I think it is irresponsible to drive anything on a shared roadway with wheel studs missing. I suppose the "builder" should be given some slack with the hope he will finish this sloppy build.

Re: METRO ON THE ROAD???

I certainly feel his pain on retrofitting newer steering columns and pedal hangers into old trucks.
For those of us that work on cars everyday that view of the modern Dodge column (with all its attendant gadgets) in that old Metro is quite the thing! There's a lot to plan for and execute just in that small area (pedal hangers, steering shaft, shifter, anti-theft electonics, horn, lights and wiper controls) and everything on the inside is connected electrically or mechanically to something outside.
You gotta give him points for audacity.

Re: METRO ON THE ROAD???

He is boldly noting his 30 hours here and there. I have over 3000 hours in my car project.
I get to difficulty of adapting new to Old. This is not like this guy had to invent anything new. All he did was transfer parts and pieces. The shoddy workmanship that is visible may be an indicator of hidden situations.
Leaving the wiring harness untouched was a very good idea.
I would not put a K&N filter on my lawnmower, although, I do use K&N on a Cummins crankcase breathed I make.

Re: METRO ON THE ROAD???

I had to laugh about his times quoted, too.
I can't tell if he's FOS and really BELIEVES it was only "12 hours" on the front of the truck, or if he got caught in a space-time warp. 12 hours is just a full day and a half. It usually takes me longer than that to plan and mark and source whatever I'm sourcing. I don't think he's counting potty time or time on FB or those hours pouring over catalogs.

Re: METRO ON THE ROAD???

From the ad description, it sounds like it has gone through another set of hands. The guy who is selling it is not the one who built it.
