Heavy Duty Metro van with dual wheels

Hi Everyone.
I just purchased a very nice Metro, (supposed to be a 1964 model, A-150- see attached pics), which has the older rounded body style. It's in very good shape and I plan to drive it home from it's present location in a couple days; a 2.5 hour highway journey. The previous owner drove it across Canada a few years ago and says that it will hum along at 55 mph all day, and in a pinch, I can push her to 60+ mph. ;) I'm in Nova Scotia and we usually use Kilometers, not miles but....
It has 65000 org. miles on it.

Anyway, it has dual rear 7.50X17 wheels. Not sure if these were the norm or optional. Can't find a lot of pics or info on these dual wheel vans.
It has about 10 rear leaves in the springs and then 3 helper leaves. She is heavy duty.
The body is very long and it has those cool rear fender extensions that look like a mid 50's IHC pickup truck.
Don't know a lot about the Metros but like the look. Got a real good deal on her. The owner was moving away and didn't want to transport it across the country. These things are extremely rare around my neck of the woods.

Is anyone familiar with the big body, heavy duty Metros? Where can I find specs and comparisons of the different models from the late 50's-early "60's?
Is my model less common or popular than the single wheel, smaller models?
Any & all info. would be helpful.
Thanks for your patience with a new Metro owner.

Re: Heavy Duty Metro van with dual wheels

Welcome to the forum. From the pic's it's in really nice shape. 8-)

You'd better check on that model number though,an A-150 is a conventional cab,built from '57-1/2 - '58. Metro's with A series chassis' will have an M after the A. The AM series was built '57-1/2 to '64.

As always, I suggest getting a copy of the trucks Line Setting Ticket (LST) so you know the spec's of the vehicle as built. LST's are extremely useful and essential when using IH parts manuals,they give you the fact's of an IH trucks components.
Here's a link with a basic lesson on LST's;
http://ih.wargenstahm.se/LST/LST.html

You can get a copy from the Wisconsin Historical Society.
See this thread;

Here's an example of an LST ('68 1100C P-U).

Parts and service manuals can be found here;

You's want the MT-102 parts manual and CTS-2000ABC Service Manual.
BB's are new licensed reprints unless noted. Or you can try Ebay,they pop up now & then.
They get the LST's from the WHS too btw, but the WHS is faster and can e mail it to you (PDF) in most cases.

The only "spec" sheets for various models I know of can be found here;

6th up from bottom.
These are just sales brochures and do not have the full list of options etc. the Sales Data Book would have.
Looking at the '63 AM-150 it shows a different (larger) tire as standard,that tells me yours was ordered with an optional size. That is a prime example for getting a copy of the LST!
12 yrs.exp. in IH dealer parts dept.
