Re: 1951 Metro- The Restoration Begins

Made a little progess yesterday. I have a lead on the gears I need and will follow up on that but we did manage to get the engine in. Now I can start getting all the accessories on and the wiring run,

Thanks, It seems like such a shame to have to cover everything up with the body.

Re: 1951 Metro- The Restoration Begins

It's been awhile since I posted an update. Been working pretty hard on it. Finally found the gears I needed for the transmission (NOS and pay less then $200 for both gears...Nice). Got that put back together. got the flywheel surfaces and now I need to find a new clutch (Any ideas?) Started putting the accessories on the engine. Once I get my starter back I should be able to fire this thing up. I've been working on the interior as well, the seat is almost done, waiting on the gauges and the dash is done and I'll leave you with a picture of my wiper motor.

What size clutch is it,engine? They aren't hard to get but can be a little pricey. I have a list of "industry" pn's for 10 to 14 inch clutches.

That wiper motor looks brand spankin' new!?

It's a Silver Diamond 220. There are some numbers on the pressure plate, would that help?

Re: 1951 Metro- The Restoration Begins

I thought is was a 220 but didn't see it mentioned anywhere here or the blog.

I kinda doubt the numbers you mentioned will help but ya never know so post them. I have all kinds of pn's on my list since I started it using IH numbers and went from there.

If the clutch is out, just measure across the pressure plate, you likely have a 10 or 11 inch clutch. Either will bolt to your flywheel,I'd go with an 11" even if it meant eating the core charge if it's a 10. Some vendors will make a deal though and give you something for the core although it might not be the same. My POV on that is,it's better than nothing and puts a core to better use than a scrap pile, these things are getting scarce.

I can't help you on a source in your area but do have a few vendor links if you can't find one locally.
