I thought that the AM series Metros coincided with the A series pickups which would be mid-'57 model year through '58 model year, but I'm not an expert on Metros. I can't seem to make the serial number on the plate match up with the serial number list- http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/cdm ... 529/rec/15
Maybe I'm overlooking something.

Where in Kansas do you live? I'm in Wichita.

In your pictures, I see an alternator, often a sign of a 12V electrical system (check bulbs). Also, there's a full flow oil filter, which points to '60s rather than '50s vintage, or not the original engine.

My thoughts, too. I've not seen a government owned vehicle that was not acquired new. With the mail bags in the back, I assume it was owned by the postal service?

Just a couple quick updates. I think you guys are right, I believe it is a 1965. Kind of crazy but the keys hanging in the ignition have a tag on them that's a 65 International LOL, never looked at them that closely.
2nd update, I checked Motors bulbs everything, it is a 12-volt system.
I put a battery in it and it cranked over beautifully, Shot a little starter fluid down the throat of the carburetor and it starts and burns starting fluid, obviously no gas, I am 100% sure the tank needs to be tended to since it was last tagged in 74.

Model year 1965 was the change over year for the IH Metro to the new "square body" Metro...........

However,.....there were 603 of the old "rounded" style Metros built in 1965, and were delivered and sold to the USAF.
Production and delivery of this contract was completed in the summer of 1965.
Those 603 were the final rounded style Metros built.

Your Metro must be one of those.

That is really cool information on the 65 this body style.
So I need to take a bill of sale to my local Inspection Department, wondering on the serial/ VIN number if all of the letters/numbers in that box go or if some of it is not part of the VIN. Anyone know how many digits the van should be?

VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) was not mandated by the FedGov until the 1981 model year. Prior to 1981, it was optional for a few years and was utilized by some manufacturers, but not by IHC.
Prior to 1981 model year trucks, IHC utilized Serial Numbers of their own design.

Your Metro:
Manufacturer - International Harvester Co.
Year - 1965
Model - AM122
Serial Number - M48698B
Maximum GVW - 6,600 pounds
Wheelbase - 115 inches

It's all on the data plate.

The METRO data plate is for the BODY only.
As it appears to me altered, who know what happened to it over the years.
But it does not effect the IHC vehicle data plate.
