Uncle Melvin's Interview

Hey everybody

I'm going back to Ohio in a couple of weeks and hope to get a chance to interview my uncle Melvin. He worked at the IH light truck plant in Springfield for about 25 years. His health is failing and this may be the last chance I get to ask him questions about the plant, the trucks and his work there.

Does anybody have any questions they'd like me to ask him? I will probably write it up as a longer article for Cornbinder Connection.

Thanks
Gary

Re: Uncle Melvin's Interview

Gary, I am sure you do not suffer from the same thing I do, (CRS) but will make the suggestion(which I'm sure you have already thought of) to take a recording device. Look forward to the info you gather. Especially any info about the specialness of the trucks as they came off the line(per individual orders)

Lloyd- I most definitely have CRS- and I will be taking a recorder.
I've heard that forgetfulness is the second symptom of Alzheimer's- can't for the life of me remember the first

I always heard that there were three, and if forgetfulness is the second, I think we are in real Trouble! You have a safe trip!

ask him- what were the busiest times and vehicles/yrs.
and,did he see many Golden Jubilees roll off the line fresh?
ask him about the most rare ones from his view.

what a great opportunity.

ask him if he knew anything about the post war designs and the tranistion away from the art deco style KB to the 50's models. It is always interesting to read about the completition between the brands to bring out the new models after the war.

How about, how much did a lineworker make in those days? and did it improve during his involvement time.
How many were put together with radios? very few, likely
start to finish, how long did it take, roughly?

Thanks Scott, but for the sake of the article, Gary, ask anyway. Manny
